Starting a Factory-Installed System for the First Time
If Stratus installed the system software at the factory, complete the following steps to start the ztC Endurance system for the first time:
-
Before starting the installation, record the site-specific settings that you will configure during the initial installation process, as described in Gathering Information.
-
Install and connect the ztC Endurance system hardware, as described in Installing and Connecting the ztC Endurance System Hardware.
Note: Be sure to connect two monitors and keyboards as described in Connecting Peripherals, as the installation requires that you respond to prompts on both compute module A and compute module B. -
Power on the monitors and the ztC Endurance system, as described in Starting Up the System.
-
After each compute module boots, perform the following steps on both compute modules:
-
Obtain the BMC Web console IP address from the BIOS setup utility, as described in Connecting to the BMC Web Console.
- Log in to the BMC Web console as described in Logging In to the BMC Web Console.
-
From the BMC Web Console dashboard, click Remote Control, then click Launch H5Viewer (that is, the KVM).
-
-
From the KVM, monitor the boot process on the active compute module (compute module A). The system automatically boots three times. Each time, enter F7 to display the
Boot Manager
screen, and then make the following selections:- At the first and second boots, select the default
ubuntu
option (for example,ubuntu (Micron_NNNN_XXXXXXXXX)
) and press Enter. - At the third boot, select the
Stratus Maintenance
option (for example,Stratus Maintenance
(Micron_NNNN_XXXXXXXXX)
) and press Enter. At this point, thewin_sysprep.sh
script, which is running on the standby compute module (compute module B), takes control of compute module A.
- At the first and second boots, select the default
-
On compute module B:
-
Using the information you gathered in step 1, create an installation configuration file (
zen_config.yaml
), as described in Preparing the Installation Configuration File. -
Run the following command to start the Stratus ztC Endurance Sysprep Wizard:
sudo /opt/stratus/bin/win_sysprep.sh -y zen_config.yaml
-
The following prompt appears:
Please complete the Windows Setup configuration on peer compute module, enter new Windows password and click Finish, but do NOT login to Windows. When completed please type [Yes/Y]
. Do not respond to this prompt yet; instead, go to step 7.
-
-
On compute module A, respond to the following prompts:
- Select your home country, your preferred language, and your keyboard layout. Click Next.
-
Click Accept to accept the Microsoft Software License Terms and the Stratus End User License Agreements (EULAs).
-
The Customize settings page appears with the prompt Type a password for the built-in administrator account that you can use to sign in to this computer. Enter your credentials and click Finish. The Windows login screen appears.
Notice: Do not log in to Windows until the installation script running on compute module B displays theInstallation completed successfully.
message.
-
On compute module B:
-
Type
yes
to the prompt shown in step 6c to proceed. -
At the
Enter the password changed during the Windows Setup
prompt, enter your password. -
Upon successful installation of the system, the installation script displays the
Stratus Windows Setup completed successfully.
message. -
Run the following command to apply the network configuration settings specified in the
zen_config.yaml
file you created earlier:/opt/stratus/bin/net_config.sh -y zen_config.yaml
Note: The command output includes the two IP addresses for connecting to the ztC Endurance console and the single IP address for connecting to the Windows host. Make a note of these IP addresses for later use.
-
-
On compute module A, log in to the Windows Administrator account, using the credentials you wrote down in Password Settings Worksheet.
Notice: The installation fails if you log in to any account other than the Windows Administrator account during this step. -
Configure your system as described in Post-Installation Tasks.
