Starting a Factory-Installed System for the First Time

If Stratus installed the system software at the factory, perform the following procedure to start the ztC Endurance system for the first time.

Notice: Do not perform this procedure until you have performed all of the procedures described in Preparing to Install the System Software.

To complete the installation

  1. Turn on the monitor(s) and press the power button on the control-panel ear of the system.

Note: If you are using only one monitor and keyboard, make sure they are connected to compute module A.
  2. As each compute module boots, perform the following steps on both compute modules:

    1. Obtain the BMC Web console IP address from the BIOS setup utility and then log in to the BMC Web console, as described in Connecting to the BMC Web Console and Logging In to the BMC Web Console, respectively.

    2. From the BMC Web console dashboard, click Remote Control, then click Launch H5Viewer (that is, the KVM).

  3. From the KVM, monitor the boot process on the active compute module (compute module A). The system automatically boots three times. Each time, enter F7 to display the Boot Manager screen, and then make the following selections:

    1. At the first and second boots, select the default ubuntu option (for example, ubuntu (Micron_NNNN_XXXXXXXXX)) and press Enter.

    2. At the third boot, select the Stratus Maintenance option (for example, Stratus Maintenance(Micron_NNNN_XXXXXXXXX)) and press Enter. At this point, the win_sysprep.sh script, which is running on the standby compute module (compute module B), takes control of compute module A.

  4. On compute module B:

    1. Using the site-specific settings from Gathering Information that you gathered earlier, create an installation configuration file (zen_config.yaml) as described in Preparing the Installation Configuration File.

    2. From the command line, run the following command to start the Stratus ztC Endurance Sysprep Wizard:

      sudo /opt/stratus/bin/win_sysprep.sh -y zen_config.yaml

    3. The following prompt appears: Please complete the Windows Setup configuration on peer compute module, enter new Windows password and click Finish, but do NOT login to Windows. When completed please type [Yes/Y]. Do not respond to this prompt yet; instead, go to the next step.

  5. On compute module A, respond to the following prompts on the Hi there screen:

    1. Select your home country, your preferred language, and your keyboard layout. Click Next.

    2. Click Accept to accept the Microsoft Software License Terms and the Stratus End User License Agreements (EULAs).

    3. The Customize settings page appears with the prompt Type a password for the built-in administrator account that you can use to sign in to this computer. Enter your credentials and click Finish. The Windows login screen appears.

Notice: Do not log in to Windows until the installation script running on compute module B displays the Installation completed successfully. message.
  6. On compute module B:
    1. Type yes to the prompt shown in step 4c to proceed.

    2. At the Enter the password changed during the Windows Setup prompt, enter your password.

    3. Upon successful installation of the system, the installation script displays the Stratus Windows Setup completed successfully. message.

    4. Run the following command to apply the network configuration settings specified in the zen_config.yaml file you created earlier: /opt/stratus/bin/net_config.sh -y zen_config.yaml

Note: The command output includes the two IP addresses for connecting to the ztC Endurance console and the single IP address for connecting to the Windows host. Make a note of these IP addresses for later use.
  7. On compute module A, log in to the Windows Administrator account, using the credentials you wrote down earlier on the Password Settings Worksheet.

Notice: The installation fails if you log in to any account other than the Windows Administrator account during this step. If this occurs, contact Stratus Customer Service.
